Many of you may already know this, but as it is Centenary year the Royal British Legion have been making the very poignant silhouettes of a `World 1 Soldier` that are very prominent in some towns and villages. Robertsbridge Section of the Legion is very small and the deadline was missed, as there were no funds to pay for one. However, over last weekend Paul Kemble-Bielecki set up a gofundme page on Facebook to raise the £1050.00 that was needed. Robertsbridge has, up to the moment of me writing, raised £1384.00 in just 3 days and this is going to enable us to have one silhouette. The page is still going and it is hoped that as so many people have been very generous, and many still don’t know about it, there may be enough raised for the village to have a pair. None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for the Ripley’s Forge and their Blacksmith Jocky Wilson offer8ing to make them. The reason is the Legion dates have closed, Ripley’s have said they will make the silhouettes free of charge as long as the money that the legion would have got still goes to the Legion. So all that is raised will be going to the Royal British Legion. It’s a win win situation. A huge thanks to all of those that have donated to have made it possible, and to those that still wants to donate.

What a fantastic village this is.

FOOTBALL: Robertsbridge United F.C., sponsored by Playfoot Engineering, saw the 1st team beat Sidley United 2-0 in the Macron East Sussex Football League Premier Division with the first goal coming on the quarter hour mark when man of the match Chris Phillips scored and just 2 minutes later Curtis Coombes doubled the lead. The second period saw both sides cancel each other out with stout defending as the game ended with three points for The Bridge. The young 2nd team struggle in Division 2 continued with defeat at Catsfield. The hosts scored after just 10 minutes when a free kick went straight under the diving Bridge keeper Aaron Ottley and 10 minutes later the hosts striker was left unmarked for a free header and a 2-0 half-time lead. Catsfield increased their lead on 55 minutes when slack marking led to a shot going through Ottley’ legs and further gaols in the 70th, 77th and 85th minutes gave the hosts a comfortable 6-0 win and still the Bridge 2nd team have failed to score a league goal. Jordan Isaac was man of the match for The Bridge. Tomorrow the 1st team are away to Bexhill A.A.C. at Buxton Drive while the 2nd team host leaders St.Leonards Social II with both matches K.O. 3p.m.
