On Sunday July 1st there is to be a Jubilee Family Service of Thanksgiving at Salehurst Church.

There will hopefully be a parade by the uniformed organisations, with favourite hymns and readings by some of the young people in the village. There will be displays and an exhibition of memorabilia at both services.

The Cajun Dawgs will be appearing at Robertsbridge Club on Sunday 1st July starting at 3pm.

Over the last few weeks I have spoken to a few older people in the village about hospital transport. Two in particular have been in late 80`s and suffer with heart problems. Up until recently when ever they needed to get to the hospital for appointments they have just rung and organised a car. Now it is different. One of them was told to catch a bus or get a taxi. There is no direct bus to the Conquest, meaning a trip into Hastings town to get a connection to the hospital and then the same in reverse to get home. Not good for elderly people with heart complaints. The next idea of a taxi is assuming that these people are well off financially, because as we know this is not a cheap mode of transport for a hospital visit. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have family and friends that can always take them. When elderly and infirm people are expected to now make their own way to hospital after years of transport being provided there will likely be a lot more missed appointments. If anyone has any answers to this issue can you please contact me on [email protected] and I will pass on the information to the people concerned.

Stoolball: At long last we managed to play both mixed games this week. On Tuesday we entertained local rivals Brightling who batted first and reached 153-2 off the allotted 12 overs with Alan Apps (1-10) taking the only wicket.

In reply we made a solid start with Richard Apps (16) and Melinda Mackay (25) putting on 51 for the first wicket. Carly Wiliams (28) and Jason Green (32) took the score to 116-4 before the collapse as we ended our innings on 139-7 just 14 runs adrift.

Thursday saw us entertain Icklesham and an opening partnership of 54 was broken when Angela Marden took a catch from Ben Moss’ bowling (1-14).

Ben returned the favour 3 overs later as Angela (1-19) claimed the second wicket and then some excellent fielding saw three run-out’s as the visitors ended their 12 overs on 133-5.

An opening partnership of 37 from Keith Marden (31) and Angela Marden (21) was the mainstay of our dismal innings as only Jason Green (17) was the only other player to reach double figure’s where we ended our innings on 130-9 losing by 3 runs.

The mixed team played at Staplecross Tournament last Sunday and although they did not win any of their tree games Melinda Mackay did win most wickets for a lady.

The mixed are at home to Staplecross on Tuesday (3rd) and away to Catsfield on Thursday (5th) with both starting at 7p.m.
