Rye Bonfire Auction is a record breaker

Rye Bonfire Society raised a record breaking £5,100 with its recent auction event.

The Tudor Room at the historic Mermaid Inn was packed to capacity for the event.

Auctioneer Jim Hollands presided as 80 items went under the hammer.

Irna Mortlock, from the Society, said: “The community and businesses rallied round to donate Champagne breakfasts, B&B stays, hair cuts, computer services and cycle hire to name but a few.

“Priscilla Ryan kindly donated two original drawings by her late Husband John. Prince Rostislav Romanov who attended the evening, donated one of his paintings, and local artist Marina Kim a portrait of Jimper Sutton. A consortium bid £850 for the honour to be Rye Fawkes. Special thanks to Judith Blincow and Georgie Pinwell from the Mermaid.”
