East Sussex County Council is reassuring bus users that services will still be available when the Highways Agency shuts a busy road bridge into Rye.
The Agency is closing Monk Bretton Bridge for refurbishment work for the whole of October.
The county council is warning that the closure will have a heavy impact on buses in the area, including school buses.
But transport chiefs have been working with the Highways Agency, Freda Gardham School, which is close to the bridge, and bus operators in the town to make sure that the bus is still an option.
Any diversionary routes would involve considerable extra time and inconvenience to bus users due to the geography of the area.
In most cases, services from the east will terminate in the area in front of Freda Gardham School allowing passengers to walk over the bridge to either a connecting bus or their final destination.
