Hildi Mitchell, the school’s Deputy Head, said: “At the beginning of the year, each of the school’s four houses chose a charity to support and throughout the year the children have been organising events to raise awareness and money.

“Saxons House chose Cancer Research as their charity as there are many of our families who have been touched by this horrible disease.

“Our school council then came up with a plan to organise a sponsored event in which all the children could take part.

“So on a sunny Friday afternoon, 300 children ran or walked as many laps as they could round the field and playground at the school supported by parents and friends.

“It was an amazing afternoon, a real community event, and one which we are all very proud of being part of.

“The children aged between 4 and 11 all ran their hardest and overall managed to run about 1200km.

“The total of over £6,000 raised for the charity was just the icing on the cake and we are very proud to be helping Cancer Research in their fight against cancer.”
