Mrs Ham writes from Sedlescombe school that on Maundy Thursday March 28 they are planning their first ever
‘Easter Pageant’and are praying hard for good weather. They would like to invite the village community to join them. The event will begin on the Village Green at 9.45am with Jesus, a child in year 6 riding on a donkey round to the school and everyone waving palm branches, singing and shouting ‘Hosanna!’. Once they arrive at school the children will act out the Last Supper, Good Friday and finish with the joyful celebration of Easter Sunday. Mrs Ham makes a urgent plea that they are still trying hard to find a donkey to borrow for an hour, so please if you know of anyone with a donkey or small friendly pony get in touch urgently on 01424 870585, thank you.
If the weather is unpleasant there are plans to perform an adapted version of the Easter Pageant in the school hall, but sadly there will be no room for the community, so let’s hope for good weather and a most wonderful first ever Easter Pageant in our Village.

John Parsons, Chairman of Sedlescombe & District Garden Society writes that they were one of the many casualties of the chaotic weather conditions last week and a lot of people were disappointed that their members meeting, arranged for Tuesday March 12, had to be postponed. However we are pleased to report that the event has been rescheduled and Dr Barry Newman will be giving his illustrated talk on “Growing Vegetables in Raised Beds” on Monday April 8 2013 at 2.00p.m. in the Village Hall. Dr Newman is a well-known grower, exhibitor, lecturer and judge. He is Chairman of the Southern Region of the National Vegetable Society and serves on its National Executive so do come along to brush up on how to grow your own vegetables. There will be the customary raffle and refreshments and entry is free for members but non-members are always welcome at a cost of £2.00 per person.
The Garden Society’s Spring Show will be held on Saturday April 13 2013, again at the Village Hall. All members will have received their copy of the 2013 Show Schedule and we would particularly like to encourage our younger friends to enter the Young Gardeners classes. The Easter holidays are fast approaching so there will be plenty of time to get your exhibits ready. If there are any members who haven’t received their Show Schedule or there are any members of our neighbouring societies who would like to enter exhibits, please contact the Secretary for more details and/or a copy of the Schedule. Holders of trophies from last year are requested to return them to the Village Stores by April 6.
