Judy Torrance, Asselton House
Last weekend I hope some of you found time to visit Sedlescombe church to see the beautiful floral arrangements, in remembrance of loved ones, that also served to decorate the building over the Easter period. A big thank you to the team of flower arrangers and all the volunteers who give their time to ensure the church is presented at its best at all times.
Along with visiting the flowers at church we also managed to visit the steam giants of Brede. I have to say I was not that keen but once there found it very interesting especially when a member took us round on a free tour. The whole enterprise is run by Brede Stream Engine Society, a charity entirely run by volunteers at the Southern water site. The site is open the first Saturday of every month therefore tomorrow April 6 from 10am to 4pm and entry is free, donations welcome. So why not be a tourist this weekend and visit some engineering history at the Brede Heritage site
Sedlescombe and District Gardening society will be welcoming Dr Barry Newman on Monday April 8 2013 at 2.00p.m. to the Village Hall when he will be giving an illustrated talk on “Growing Vegetables in Raised Beds”. Dr Newman is a well-known grower, exhibitor, lecturer and judge. He is Chairman of the Southern Region of the National Vegetable Society and serves on its National Executive so do come along to brush up on how to grow your own vegetables. There will be the customary raffle and refreshments and entry is free for members but non-members are always welcome at a cost of £2.00 per person.
The Garden Society’s Spring Show will be held on Saturday April 13 2013, again at the Village Hall. All members will have received their copy of the 2013 Show Schedule and we would particularly like to encourage our younger friends to enter the Young Gardeners classes. If there are any members who haven’t received their Show Schedule or there are any members of our neighbouring societies who would like to enter exhibits, please contact the Secretary for more details and/or a copy of the Schedule. Holders of trophies from last year are requested to return them to the Village Stores by April 6.
