Mrs Ham has news from Sedlescombe Primary school as the children return to school after the festive break, she writes : The new term is underway now, the children have had a great Christmas holiday in spite of the wet and windy weather. The new term is going to be very busy and exciting. We have many new projects for the children in each class to enjoy such as ‘Eggtastic’ for Year 1, this is all about new life from eggs and we hope to hatch our own chickens once again as Easter approaches; ‘Me and my shadow’ all about the sun, light, dark and shadows which includes a visit to the Herstmonceux Science Centre for Year 3; the Tudors for Year 6, to include a Tudor building day plus a visit to Knole House in Sevenoaks; ‘Fairy tales’ for Year 2 with a performance by the travelling Rainbow Theatre, as well as a Puppeteer’s visit to Reception children. The school choir will be performing in the Hastings Festival Choir Competition in March, as well as visiting the Royal Albert Hall for a children’s ‘Classical Spectacular’ concert. The football and netball teams will be taking part in matches, as well as a local tournament in March. Our ‘Performing Arts Club’ will be taking part in a local dance festival at Phoenix Arts Centre, Hastings in February. The whole school will enjoy a visiting theatre company’s visit in March to perform the wonderful children’s story “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. We have our annual Book fair at the end of January and lots more wonderful events to enrich and enhance our children’s educational experience. The Easter term will finish with an outdoor Easter Pageant involving the school , the church and the village community on April 4.
We welcome help in school with listening to children read, cooking, art work, small group support - if you are interested in helping on a regular basis for example one to two hours per week, please contact the school office for further information. Everyone has to fill in a short volunteer’s application form and have a CRB check which we can do for you free of charge. Telephone 01424 870585.
Do remember to look on our website/learning platform for further news about our school: www.sedlescombecep.e-sussex.sch.uk and click on the train.
After reading of all the exciting things that the children will be doing this term , I would not mind going back and starting school all over again but as that is not possible perhaps trying out a new club or hobby would suffice. Any of the groups in the village are welcoming to new members and all details can be found in the Sedlescombe directory. Why not try a new start in 2014?
