Sentence date set for Wick child sex offender

A WICK man who had more than 25,000 indecent images of children on his computer, will be sentenced in July, after his co-defendant pleaded guilty to similar charges last week.

John Churchley, 59, of Belloc Road, was arrested in May last year, and later pleaded guilty to 15 offences, including making, possessing and distributing indecent images of children.

Arrested at the same time was David Keen, 29 from Bognor, who appeared at Hove Trial Centre, charged with sexual assault and sexual activity with a child under 16. Keen changed his plea to guilty just minutes before the trial was to start. He denied a rape charge, which will lie on file.

In total, Keen has now admitted 28 offences, including nine relating to sexual activity with a 13-year-old boy in Australia.

Both men remain in custody, and will be sentenced on July 12.

DI Jeff Riley, of the Sussex police major crime branch, said: "We are working with a number of partner agencies to support the children who came to notice during the investigation, as well as their families, and this support will be given to anyone else who may be coming forward."

He added that police had a "small number of identifiable images of young men" whom may be additional victims of Keen.

"We encourage them to make contact even at this late stage. We can provide support and I ask them if they have been a victim of abuse to contact their parents, a professional they trust or Childline on 0800 11 11 for support and advice.

"Alternatively they can contact police direct on 0845 6070999 and quote Operation Addition."
