Horsham's family fun day - Sparks in the Park - is to go ahead this summer after two local charities banded together to save the event.

Horsham Festival and Horsham Rotary Club announced this week that the much-loved event will take place on July 9. It had previously been under threat after Horsham District Council pulled out of organising it this year.

Announcing the event had been saved, Rotary spokesman John Le Rossignol said it was “thanks to the many friends who contacted us with support, help or simply good wishes.

“The new family fun day will consist of a variety of entertainments, sports, attractions and participative activities for the whole family - including of course Benson’s Funfair.

“One change is that this year the events on offer will not only be in Horsham Park, but also in the Carfax, Capitol Theatre and County Hall.”

The event falls within Horsham Festival week and will include art exhibitions, dance, drama, music, and literature events, coding for kids from Hack Horsham, as well as some eco-friendly events.

In the park there will be a stage with performances all afternoon, golf and other have-a go sports. And more is still in the planning stage. The huge Rotary Charity Market will also form part of the celebrations.

Anyone who has an event they would like to be considered as part of the fun day, or can offer their help on the day, would be welcome, said John Le Rossignol.
