The initiative, managed by Littlehampton Sports Forum and the Littlehampton Town Council, is aimed at recognising the achievements and contributions made by local sporting heroes and community champions.

Anyone from junior to senior, team and individual as well as off-pitch heroes can be put forward for an award; there are ten categories to choose from.

The award categories, which have been sponsored by a range of Littlehampton businesses, including the Gazette, are as follows: sportsperson of the year; young sportsperson of the year; coach of the year; sports team of the year; youth sports team of the year; administrator of the year; contribution to youth sports; contribution to disabled sports; unsung hero (dedicated to non-sporty people who have made invaluable contributions in the last year) and then the mayor’s award for a lifetime contribution to sport.

The ceremony will be hosted by professional snooker player John Virgo.

The chairman of the Littlehampton Sports Forum, councillor Malcolm Belchamber said: “The sports awards are a way of saying thank you to the many talented sports people in our Town who deserve to be recognised for their achievements and for flying the flag for Littlehampton at regional, national and even international level.

“The awards also recognise that local sport would not be successful without the teams of dedicated volunteers including coaches and administrators. If you know someone whose dedication to sport be it in practice or in the background this is the time to put them forward for an award.”

The closing date is August 29. Nominations can be made online at www.littlehampton-tc.gov.uk or by form from Manor House, in Church Street, Littlehampton.
