SUMMER SLOW-DOWN: With the school’s gates closed - pupils and staff alike, will all now be enjoying the beginning of their long summer furlough along with many of our other local social groups who may also be taking a summer recess. Life to many, may seem to slow down and the area become the ‘quiet little backwater’ that, especially through the long, hopefully hot summer days, many people seem to associate with country life, throughout England. If this is so, then make the most of the peace and quiet and enjoy life for a while in the ‘Slow Lane’. There will still be lots of events and exciting places to visit and ‘do’ so just enjoy this lovely summer of ours, however you choose.
STAPLECROSS BOWLS CLUB: Still keeping apace with their very busy fixture list and showing no signs of slowing down, this very busy bowls club have no less than five (5) matches arranged for just this week alone !. The first match is planned for Saturday July 25th with a home match against White Rock. No Sunday lie-in’s allowed for the teams on the following day,- Sunday July 26th -as this will be the first of two away matches to be played out this week beginning with today and the opponents on this occasion are Pett. The next away match will be against Fairlight, and will be played on Tuesday July 28th. The teams will return to play two home matches at their home ground on Northiam Road, Staplecross with the first being played on Wednesday July 29th and the opposition is Clive Vale. The week comes to a close on Thursday July 30th when the club meet Alexandra. All matches will commence play at 2.30pm. and spectators and supporters are always welcomed. If you’d like more details or information on how to become more involved of this friendly and dedicated club, please either contact any member of the club or contact Evelyn on 01580~830107 or via her email on firstname.lastname@example.org. You’d be made very welcome.-- As a Post-Script to the Bowls Club news, - I have been made aware of incorrect information inadvertently being given in connection to the ‘Sellings Cup’ bowls event that was played yesterday Thursday July 23rd. The correct information is that the “Sellings Cup” is a trophy played for annually between the Mermaid Bowls League’ and the Rother Bowls League’ and not individual teams. This year the match took place at Tenterden Bowls Club, -not Staplecross Bowls Club as stated. The two league representative sides are selected by the management of the two leagues and the winners of the match receive the “Sellings Cup” to be held for one year. Sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused to all concerned.
ROTHER RAMBLERS: Definitely no holiday time out for this group as the members of this popular walking group have arranged two more walks for us to enjoy. Both very different, but both very enjoyable. Walk No: 1 is planned to take place on Sunday July 26th and will be a 10 mile circular walk from Rolvenden via Tenterden. Those joining this walk should meet at 10.0am on Rolvenden High Street, near the church. OS EXP.125 TQ844312. (SatNav TN17 4LS) As usual, a picnic lunch is suggested and David will be your ‘Walk Leader’ for this occasion, so please ring him on:01580~852432 for all further details. Walk No: 2 is of slightly shorter mileage, being only 8.5 miles, and will take place Wednesday July 29th when all those who fancy a game of the eternal “Pooh Stix” may get their wish as this stroll is entitled “Ashdown Forest and A.A.Milne” - a walk from Hartfield. All those who would like to be part of this lovely walk, - and who wouldn’t, - should meet at 10.0 am in the Car Park,- 100 yards south of Junction of B2110 and B2026 in Hartfield. OS EXP 135. TQ479358.(SatNavTN7 4AA) A picnic lunch is again suggested and as Ashdown Forest is a beautiful part of the country to visit at any time of the year, perhaps now is just the right time for you to do so.
