STAPLECROSS BONFIRE SOCIETY: LAST REMINDER-This annual event as seen and enjoyed by 1000's throughout Sussex ( and even further afield) is one of our community's social highlights of the year. Taking place of Saturday October 27th - THAT's TOMORROW ! - This date has been eagerly awaited by a huge number of people as it is one of the special social '˜get-together' events of our parish. This is an amazing night for all concerned from the early Fancy Dress event which takes place in Staplecross Village Hall at 5.30pm - Judging begins at 6.30pm onwards - to the dowsing of the last flames of the bonfire and the closing of the bonfire arena and field.. The amazing Torchlight Procession with 100's of flaming torches will line up and move off promptly at 7.15pm. - starting the village's long awaited noisy, exciting and dazzling parade from the village through to Cripps Corner then returning to the bonfire field to the conclusion of the evening with the lighting of the bonfire and the firework display. Please remember this is a '˜dark village' - with NO street lighting OR road kerbs - and has mostly uneven grass verge- along the parade route, so please take extra care, especially with children, bring warm, dry clothing - AND TORCHES- to help when returning to your vehicles at the end of the evening. This is also an ADVANCE NOTICE of the ROAD CLOSURE between Cripps Corner and Staplecross (B2165) to allow the Torchlight Procession and all those that accompany them safe passage from Staplecross down to Cripps Corner and back up again to the field where the rest of the evenings events will take place - the highlight - as stated - being the lighting of the huge bonfire and the eagerly awaited fantastic firework display The road is generally closed from 7.00pm until 10.00pm (approximately) so please ensure you choose an alternative route during this time. ROTHER RAMBLERS: As usual, just two walks this week, for us to enjoy and join in if we so wish. Walk No: 1 is planned for Sunday October 28th and is an 8.5 circular meander from Bodiam via Salehurst. The meeting point is the Bodiam Castle car park (Free if you are a NT member -charges apply if you are not !) OS.EXP136. TQ784254, (SatNavTN32 5UA) at the normal time of 10,00am. The walk notes state “a picnic lunch is suggested and a possible tea at Bodiam following the end of the walk.” Carol (C.) is to be your ‘walk leader for this excursion and you may contact her on: 01797~690958 for more details. Walk No: 2 is arranged for Weds. October 31st (‘All Hallows Eve !) and is another 8 mile stroll but this will be a circular walk of Bedgebury. The meeting point is to be at Pillory Corner public car park. OS.EXP136. TQ711322. (satnav TN5 7QG) again at 10.00am and of course, a picnic lunch is the suggestion of the day. ADVANCE INVITATION: ‘ALL SOULS’ DAY’. - An invitation from Canon Christopher, is extended to all and sundry to come along and enjoy this special celebration of words and music for the month of remembrance, which will take place on Friday November 2nd. at 6.15pm in St. James the Great Church, Ewhurst Green. “Requiem” - a poem, in seven sections - will be read by well known local ‘lad’ - C.J. (Jonty) Driver and the Cello Suite No. 1 by J.S.Bach will be played by Martin Bradshaw, formerly a member of the ‘Archeus Quartet’. No tickets need to be purchased or seats booked, making this a congenial community gathering.Please make a note of this date and invite your family and friends to come along and share this special evening. STAPLECROSS SOCIAL CLUB: Just a little reminder of some of the delightful events that will be taking place in this great social club, right in the heart of Staplecross village, Friday Night is Bingo Night, which continues to be a popular and fun evening - and that the FIRST SATURDAY in the month belongs to the Darts Competition - which is also doing well and enjoyed by all who take part- especially the winners ! The next date for this will be Saturday November 3rd. A special event in being held on Saturday November 10th from 8,00pm ‘til late and this will be in the form of a 1940’s “War-time Fancy Dress - plus excellent buffet. A little later in the month - on Saturday November 24th a ‘Race Night’ will be held and this will start at 8.00pm. This may be a village social club, but everyone is always very welcome, so do please pop along and support your local amenity and have fun ! CHURCH SERVICES: Church services for the parish of Ewhurst will commence at St. James the Great, Ewhurst Green on Sunday October 28th. Simon and Jude, Apostles. at 9.30 am. This service will include Holy Communion (BCP) A service at St. Mark’s church, Northiam Road, Staplecross will follow directly after at 11.15am. This service will also offer Holy Communion (BCP) There will be NO SERVICE today at St. Giles, Bodiam.. If there is any church matter on which you feel you may need further assistance, especially Baptisms, Weddings and sadly, Funerals, then do please get in touch with our Priest in Charge, Canon Christopher Irvine on 01580~830925. He is always there to care and support you and unselfishly will guide you towards the solution that is right for you.
