HOT on the heels of their acclaimed performance at this year’s Hastings Jack in the Green Festival Peter Knight’s Gigspanner are due to perform at Rye Community Centre on Sunday November 25.
Formed by iconic Steeleyespan fiddle player Peter Knight, Gigspanner has a well established reputation across the UK and further afield.
G gspanner’s material has its roots in the traditional music of the British Isles. But it also audaciously flirts with Eastern European, Cajun, African, French and even Aboriginal influences. It is fitting that Author Terry Pratchett wrote that “Peter Knight can spin the world on his Bow”.
A graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Music, a veteran of the British Folk scene and patron of the Fiddle Festival of Britain, Peter is in possession of a musical flexibility and deeply emotional playing style that is truly unique. He is joined by Hastings based musicians, guitarist Roger Flack and percussionist Vincent Salzfaas.
The trio’s debut album Lipreading the Poet was named as one of the best 15 ‘Global’ CD’s of 2009 by The Wire magazine, while Songlines magazine described it as “music of intelligently crafted brilliance” .
Tickets can be bought online at www.gigspanner.com, or directly from B&T Music, Hastings or Grammar School Records, Rye.
