SWANS' HEADS DISCOVERY SHOCKS WILDLIFE EXPERT

THE discovery of two swans' heads near the Look and Sea Centre in Littlehampton has raised new fears that the birds are being targeted once again.

The heads were spotted floating in the river Arun on Sunday morning by staff from the centre and RNLI lifeboat station.

This follows two instances of swans being shot with air rifles near the centre in August. One was found with two pellets under its wing in its breast area, and the other with a single pellet in its neck. Amazingly, they survived the ordeal.

Billy Elliott, from Worth-ing and District Animal Rescue Service (WADARS), said: "I think there's a difference between a pot shot with an air rifle and cutting their heads off.

"It definitely is a worry and a concern that somebody is actually doing this to these birds."
