Table Sale at Beulah Baptist Church

A WELL attended table sale helped to raise money and awareness for an orphanage in Uganda on Saturday. The event, held at Beulah Baptist Church in Clifford Road, was set up to help the Good Samaritan Centre and Community Care Initiative in Africa.

The 'Weigh In' slimming group, who meet at the church hall, have already done a significant amount of fundraising for the project.

The orphanage, set up in the small village of Buddo in Uganda, provides a health clinic as well as offering a home to children orphaned by AIDS.

The service has no regular or sufficient income as only around 30 per cent of patients are fee paying. Children and HIV/AIDS patients are all in need of sponsoring and every penny donated in spent on them.

Sale organiser Liz Martin said: "It has gone very, very well. We have got about 15 tables and it was been well supported. We have teas and coffee and the cakes are going like ... well, hot cakes!"

'Weigh In' meet on a Wednesday morning from 10am to 11am. A session costs 1 with all proceeds to charity. Call 01424 848665 for more information.

Donations to the orphanage can be made by contacting the Fincham family on 01424 214710 or emailing
