Tangmere Village Fête triumph

FAMILIES had a fantastic time at Tangmere Village Fête on Sunday.

There was an excellent turnout and a number of performances, although some had to be cancelled due to the wet weather.

Organiser Hilary Nation said: “It was fantastic. Considering the weather, we were almost overwhelmed by the people who came.

“It is one of the best supported fêtes we have had, even though the weather was against us and it was the Wimbledon men’s final. Everybody said that they had a good time.

“We were promised sun by 2pm but it never came. It was windy as well and it is quite an exposed site, but we managed to cram as many as possible into the marquee.”

One of the highlights was the craft and produce show, which was organised as a one-off.

Hilary explained: “I wanted to get some enthusiasm drummed up for a new gardening club in the village as there is a lot of interest in it at the moment. It is because of that we have got a very enthusiastic young man who wants to start it up.”

There were donkey rides for the first time and the dog show proved popular with the audience.

Among the displays was the Bognor-based Wonder Girls and Wonder Boys pom pom troupe.

Hilary said: “They were super. It is lovely to see young people so enthusiastic.”

The fête had been eagerly anticipated as it is the first in the village for three years.

“We are trying to get the community together as much as possible as we don’t want to lose our identity as a village,” explained Hilary.

“We wanted families to come and enjoy time together, which is why we opted for a Sunday.”
