TEACH-IN ON WHALE RESCUES

Volunteers from across the South East of England will be converging on Pevensey Bay at the weekend to help rescue a whale, dolphin and seal on the beach.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) has had 35 people book on its training course which will take place on the beach at Pevensey Bay during the afternoon on Saturday 25th February between 1.30 and 4pm. This course will teach them how to become Marine Mammal Medics.

Several members of the London Whale Rescue team and the Maryport Dolphin rescue team will be present running the course.

The morning will be spent learning the basic biology, and first aid procedures for whales, dolphins and seals rescues folowed a practical session in the afternoon showing how to lift and refloat stranded cetaceans and how to catch injured or sick seals.

They will use a life size model of a pilot whale, dolphin and seal filled with water to make them the same weight as a real animal.
