A TEENAGER was punched and kicked during a vicious assault in the Mint at Rye.

George Slater, 20, of Wittersham Road, Iden, Rye, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment suspended for two years and ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work for the assault, which took place on March 3.

He has been given a curfew to remain at home for 107 days between 9.30pm and 5am and must not enter Rye for a year between 10pm and 5am. He has also received a nine month Rye Bar Watch ban.

The 17-year-old victim was punched and kicked during the assault, causing bruising and a deep cut to the head.

Inspector James Scott said: “Tackling anti-social behaviour is a priority of the neighbourhood policing team in Rother and we will continue to work together with partners and the local community to eliminate these problems.

“We will not tolerate violence of any nature and will pursue a criminal conviction to bring justice to victims.”
