TERRY Flood joined a health and fitness club to battle his way back to well-being after cancer surgery '“ only to end up fighting the management over a subscription dispute.

Mr Flood joined Esporta, at Angmering, last July, four months after his operation, in a bid to build up his fitness again.

But his medical condition left him struggling for breath and, in February, he had to stop going to the club after a series of infections set back his recovery.

Mr Flood, 52, of Elmhurst Close, Angmering, says he gave the necessary three months' notice, with evidence of his medical condition, to the club in April, to terminate his membership.

But Esporta claims it never received the letter, adding that Mr Flood refused to supply evidence of his medical condition, in spite of repeated requests.

The club's management threatened Mr Flood with legal action unless he paid a further three months' membership fees, but yesterday (Wednesday), after an approach by the Gazette, Esporta said it would write off the outstanding balance.
