Nick frequently visits the centre but the purpose of this particular visit was to discuss “social prescribing”, the importance of social interaction for maintaining good health.

The Laburnum Centre is working with local GP surgeries to encourage this approach for their patients.

Mr Gibb said: “It’s all to easy to become isolated in old age, but the evidence is now very clear that maintaining a busy social life is a key component of living a healthy life.”

The Laburnum Centre has 1100 members and is open to people over the age of 50 and activities that take place include line dancing, art, bingo and more. For further details visit www.ageuk.org.uk.
