Thief stole Worthing charity collection

POLICE are trying to trace a "despicable" thief who stole money from a hospice charity box.

The man entered the Environment Agency offices in Chatsworth Road, Worthing, at around 5pm on Wednesday, November 11.

Police sergeant Ian Kerr said: "The man selected a charity box (for St Barnabas House hospice) and emptied the contents into a baby carrier and then placed the empty box back on the desk.

"Then, he had the audacity to put 20 pence back in the box when the receptionist turned to deal with him."

Sgt Kerr said police were looking through CCTV and hoped to catch the man, who was in his mid 30s and wearing a hoodie.

Anyone with information about this or any other crime, is asked to contact police on 0845 6070 999.

When a crime is taking place, and/or lives are in danger, always call 999.
