Time to have say on council change

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England is currently consulting on its draft proposals for new ward boundaries in the Arun District.

The commission’s draft recommendations propose Arun District Council should have 53 councillors in the future, three fewer than the current arrangements.

This would mean councillors would represent 16 two-member and seven three-member wards.

Max Caller, chair of the commission, said: “We’re keen to hear what local people think of the recommendations and we’re asking them to tell us if they agree with the proposals or if not, how they can be improved.

“Our review aims to deliver electoral equality for voters in elections to Arun District Council.

“This means that each councillor represents a similar number of electors so that everyone’s vote in council elections is worth roughly the same regardless of where you live.

“We also aim to ensure the council’s wards reflect, as far as possible, the interests and identities of Arun’s local communities.

“We will consider all the submissions we receive whoever they are from and whether your evidence applies to the whole district or just a part of it.”
