The town's original traditional sign was mysteriously taken from its post a year ago and despite a search and appeals has never been recovered.

Two members of the Rotary Club, Richard Miers and Alan Barton, set about the task of recreating a new version of the 'Cuckoo Lady', this time in durable stainless steel. Alan used his skills as a designer to create a facsimile based on an original drawing used by Rotary on their members' magazine.

Richard, took the design and re-worked the pattern in a durable lightweight stainless steel that will last for years to come.

The sign was re-erected on Thursday last week by members of the club, taking pride of place at the westerly end of the High Street.

After much searching of the surrounding area, when the sign went missing last year, Heathfield and Waldron Rotary Club, who provided the original sign, decided that a new one had to be put back.
