A21 reopens in both directions after truck rolled over

The road was shut between the A2100 near Battle and A28 near Baldslow.

It has now reopened.

Earlier on Friday (January 22), Highways England said: “The A21 in East Sussex is closed in both directions between the A2100 (near Battle) and the A28 (near Baldslow) due to an overturned HGV which has shed its load. Highways England contractors are on scene and dealing. There has been damage to power cables and a spillage of oil and diesel across the carriageway. Due to the location of the power cables and the complex recovery of the vehicle, the carriageway is expected to remain closed throughout the day.

“Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the black hollow square symbol and exit the A21 at Sedlescombe into the B2244 and travel north to Hawkhurst. As the road enters Hawkhurst it becomes the A229 northbound. Follow the A229 until the junction with the A268. At the junction turn west onto the A268 and travel towards the Flimwell crossroads and rejoin the A21 northbound.

“Road users travelling southbound are advised to leave the A21 at Johns Cross and follow the A2100 towards Battle. Follow the A2100 south through Battle, Telham and Baldslow and rejoin the A21 southbound.

“Please plan ahead and allow extra travelling time for your journey.”
