Mid Sussex Times photographer Steve Robards took the footage on Junction Road this week, two weeks after a previous video showed some of the worst potholes in town.

“Some of the holes are now enormous,” he said, adding that his previous video highlighted the ‘dreadful’ condition of Junction Road.

Sussex World recently published a comment piece about the ‘dangerous’ holes that are still on Sussex roads after winter.

Revd. Stephen MacCarthy, of Coopers Close, sent in a photo of a particularly deep pothole on Junction Road. He said: “Over the past year this and all the other potholes between the railway crossing and Worlds End roundabout have been badly filled with tarmac a dozen times. Within a few days each is back to being a dangerous hazard. This road is again lethal to anyone on two wheels. It is a main road and bus route past a Primary School.”

He suggested that if the road cannot be fixed properly then one solution could be to move parking from west side of the road to the east side because the west side lane is not used as much.

He said: “As a local resident who has dealt with three new tyres and a bent wheel on family cars in the last month can I plead for action on this major road? Incidentally, nearby side roads, Noel Rise and St Wilfred’s Road, were completely relaid last week when they were in much better state than this road.”

A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “The specific pothole highlighted on Junction Road has been scheduled for repair in the coming days. These works will be completed at night due to the proximity to the level-crossing. Junction Road is also currently due to be resurfaced in the 2024/25 financial year, subject to change due to reasons beyond our reasonable control.”
