The work, costing £110,000, is required because the existing traffic signals, at the Chichester Road/Town Cross Avenue/ Bersted Street crossroads, are reaching the end of their lifespan, with replacement parts difficult to source, West Sussex County Council said.
The new lights will utilise the latest LED technology, which will improve the signals’ reliability, reduce maintenance and save energy.

Bersted Street will be closed from May 10 until May 28.
This is for the safety of both the public and workforce as there is insufficient space for safe working under temporary lights, the council said.
A county council spokesperson said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the work but please bear in mind this project will lead to long-term improvements.
“If possible, road users are advised to seek alternative routes, particularly during peak periods.”
The scheme is estimated to cost about £110,000 and is part of the county council’s multi-million-pound Highway, Transport and Planning Delivery Programme.
