Tribute paid to ‘a wonderful guy’ as £2,000 is given to fundraiser after tragic A24 crash

Close friend Miles Bomyer set up the fundraiser in memory of Callum Chapman, 24, from Southwater who died in December.

Miles, 20, said: “It’s like losing your brother. We don’t want people to forget about him because he was a massive part of Southwater.

“He was a very well known guy around here and very respected. It’s a big loss for Southwater.”

Miles, from Buck Barn, said he was travelling in a car in front of Callum and saw the collision.

“It was the most heartbreaking thing I have ever had to see,” Miles said. “To know that I was there with him made the whole thing a whole lot better.”

He launched the fundraiser to commemorate his friend of ten years and said the money will be put towards finishing a project car Callum had bought as well as a memorial bench and tree.

In an emotional tribute on the fundraising page, Miles said: “Callum was a wonderful guy who had so much going for him, sadly losing him has resulted in him not being able to even start his project car Trevor.

“He got some wheels and that was about it! It would make Callum very happy to get Trevor completed to exactly how he would have wanted it!

“We also are raising money to have a memorial bench placed in his favourite metal detecting place, plus a tree just for Callum.

“Callum deserved so much in life but sadly didn’t get the chance for long enough, we will forever miss you and love you Callum.”
