Nearly seventy people sat down to a much-appreciated hot lunch in St Mary’s Community Hall last Thursday. One of a series of annual winter lunches arranged by the Brede and Udimore Overseas Group, this was voted one of the best yet, a very happy occasion, which raised over £600 for the four overseas missionary charities supported by the group. Liz Turgoose has asked me to thank the group’s committee and their many other helpers for their sterling hard work, which contributed so much to the success of the occasion.

Another annual event that has become increasingly popular is the Evening of Poetry & Prose, taking place tomorrow (Saturday) in the Hall, starting at 7.15pm. If you don’t want to miss it, but haven’t yet let Robert Wheeler or Gary Marriott know, please give one of them a ring as soon as possible: their numbers are 01797 222009 and 01424 882412 respectively. If you’d like to be one of the readers, please prepare a passage or two of your favourite poetry or prose and bring them along with you - or you may prefer just to listen. For £12.50 you can also enjoy a delicious two-course hot meal.

The services in St Mary’s Church on Sunday are the Holy Communion at 8am and the Family Service for All at 11.15am, followed by a social gathering in the Hall, with refreshments.
