Ferry Road Closure: For the renewal of gas main and services, only a short section of Ferry Road, and an even shorter section of Wish Street, will be closed, having little effect on our way into Rye on B2089. However, please note that during the first phase of the closure, starting this Sunday, Station Approach will be open to traffic in both directions, controlled by traffic lights on both sides of the level crossing. There could well be delays at this point! Our way back onto B2089 will be either shorter (leaving Jempson’s car park, turn left) or rather lengthier, than at present (continue eastwards along Cinque Ports Street, temporarily one way along its full length, then follow either (but not recommended) the High Street and Market Road, or (better) Landgate, Bedford Place, Fishmarket Road, South Undercliff, Wish Street and the western end of Cinque Ports Street. When the first phase is complete (no date yet published) the clockwise one-way system around Station Approach, Cinque Ports Street and Ferry Road will resume (as at present), but at Longley’s Corner there’ll be no entry into Wish Street until the end of the second phase (Friday January 30). When visiting Rye during these 3 weeks, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to use Gibbet’s Marsh car park, if you can.

Church Services: In St Mary’s Church this Sunday, Holy Communion will be celebrated at 8am. The monthly Family Service for All will be at 11.15am, followed by a social gathering in the Hall, with refreshments.

Winter Lunch: Tickets for the lunch on Thursday January 22 have been selling very well, but a few more could be made available by adding another table. At £8.50 for a two-course hot meal they’re wonderful value, and it’s sure to be another very good party. Please contact Liz Turgoose (01424 882657) or Judy Edwards (01424 882222) as soon as possible.
