Udimore

Richard Holmes, Beauchamps

At Udimore Wildlife Society’s AGM on Monday evening last week, May 27, having reminded us of the events of another very successful year (all duly reported in this column) Keith Dean retired from the chairmanship. He is succeeded by Jeremy Boatwright-Smith, whose election was unanimously endorsed by all members present. Jeremy thanked Keith for all his hard work in getting the Society off to a good start and initiated a discussion about the programme for the coming year. Alex Boatwright-Smith succeeds Liz Dean as secretary. Colin Knight continues as treasurer.

The annual Rockabilly Race party on Parsonage Farm last Saturday, June 1, again went very well. There were 48 runners from many clubs, near and far, bringing their supporters with them, some of whom had already set up camp on the farm. The race, on a five mile course around the Tillingham Valley, was as keenly contested as ever. The Revd John Lee again did well, coming in tenth and securing a prize among the veterans. The local team again ran a very popular bar and barbecue, an excellent band provided live music and the party went on late into the evening. The organizers are always hoping to encourage more entries to this event: plenty of time to start training for next year?
