VET CALLED TO BEACHED SEAL

A GREY seal had to be put down on the beach at Cuckmere Haven on Friday, February 24.

The very old and emaciated seal, weighing about 200 kilograms, was put sleep by Bronwin Eastwood, a veterinary surgeon from Brighton who had been called in by British Divers Marine Life Rescue.

Said co-ordinator Trevor Weeks: 'The seal was underweight and very old. Its teeth were worn down and it had an infected neck.

'There was also oil on its belly and back.

'It had come to the end of its life and we thought it best with to have it put down humanely.'
