Sad News: for those who knew Trevor Martin Symmons a member of our community died recently and his funeral is at 2pm today the 2nd of November in St George’s Church Brede. Please pray for his friends and family at this difficult time.

Friday 2 November: Brede Farmers Market in Brede Village Hall from 10am – 12noon. Those who are regular attend know what a benefit this is for our local community so please go and support the stall holders and the Brede Friendly Circle Tea ladies if you have not been able to before. Brede Short Mat Bowls are at 7.30pm in Brede Village Hall. The November Parish Council Newsletter is now out and should be with you shortly If you do not receive a copy within the next week Please phone Lesley 01424 882800 and let her know. Council News is within and also all the activities and functions coming up between now and March. Please read it and keep it in a safe place for reference. This will be especially important if the weather turns really bad. If you have a problem please do not hesitate to phone your nearest Councillor as we are doted around Broad Oak and Brede and will do what we can to help you.Our contact details are on the back cover. Make sure you have warming soup available, tinned food and a well stocked freezer so that if necessary you will not have to go out in icy weather.

Sunday 4 November: Church Services in the Parish are as follows: Father Anthony White conducts the Mass at 9.00am in St Theresa’s Catholic Church on the old Northiam Road. If you need to contact the Father his number is 01424 773125

At the Trinity Methodist Church Drina Hanson is taking the service at this morning’s worship at 10.30am The Reverend Peggy Heim is the Pastoral Minister and can be contacted on 01424 422350 The seat at the back of the Church is there for all to use, why not go and sit in the tranquil wildlife garden and admire the view.

Monday 5 November: Remember, Remember the 5th of November and the fate of Guy Falkes and his accomplices. We have had some wonderful Bonfire Societies events and locally both Northiam and Staplecross last weekend were magnificent especially the fireworks – thank you so much to all those who put in so much effort on behalf of us all who enjoy these events. Pilates with Susan is at 9.15am in Udimore Community Hall and she can be contacted on 07858 518504 followed by the Wea Gardening course at 11.30am.

Pilates with Geraldine will be at 6.30pm in Brede Village Hall, followed by keep fit at 8pm.

4 Charities Soup and Scrabble lunch is being held in Udimore Village Hall. £5 for soup and bread, a one hour game of Scrabble followed by tea and cake starting at 12:00. NO previous experience required and everyone is welcome to join in this enjoyable event. The next lunch is Friday 14 December .

Black and White Ball: Join St Michael’s Hospice for their inaugural charity ball at the prestigious Montgomerie Suite, Bannatyne Hotel, Hastings. Perfect for groups of friends, family and colleagues, the theme for this year’s ball is Black and White and they are looking forward to seeing everyone dressed in their most glamorous outfits! The WW1 Sing-a-long: raised over £1000 for the Royal British Legion The organizers were very pleased with the result and thanks everone who supported the event. Lloyds Bank Rye: has closed, mobile buses will be used instead and here is the time table for Rye Market Car Park. Wednesdays 10am – 11.45 opening again at 12.30pm – 2.45pm. Fridays 10am – 11.30am. Please make a note of these times if you are a customer.

Flu Campaign 2018: There two more clinics for the over 65 at the Broad Oak surgery for surnames M-Z Wednesday 28 November both sessions are from 2pm – 3pm If you missed the under 64 flu clinics at the Broad Oak Surgery the remaining date from 5pm for patients under 64 who have a qualifying condition need to make an appointment for Monday 5th November at the Northiam surgery please call 01424 252140.

All over 65 with surnames G-J Wednesday 7th November. Surnames K-N Thursday 15th November. Surnames O-S Wednesday 21st November Surmames T-Z Thursday 29th November all the latter are at 2pm – 3.30pm no appointment is needed at the Nothiam Surgery .

Children’s Flu Clinics the vaccination will be offered at their school for the reception class and classes 1.2.3,4,and 5 those under 17 and Pre school children can access the Nasal Flu Clinics at the Surgery by appointment on Thursday 22November from 2pm. I hope you can make sense of all the above

Future Events and Bookings

Sunday 11 November: Battles Over—A Nation’s Tribute and Ringing for Peace. To help celebrate the 100th Anniversary since the end of WW1 at St George’s Church Brede. We are inviting the local community to join us in marking this important occasion. At 6.55pm we will be sounding the Last Post. Then at 7pm the new Beacon in Waterworks Lane will be lit. 7.05pm the Church Bells will ring out. More details will appear in the Church magazine for November and Brede Village Voice.

Rother District Council: would like to make you aware that there are all-out District Council elections next year, based on the new ward boundaries which come into effect in May 2019 (the details of which can be seen at the following link: http://www.lgbce.org.uk/all-reviews/south-east/east-sussex/rother). The Council is holding a pre-election event at which people who are interested in standing for election can find out more about how they could represent their community.

Monday 19 November: The event is being held at the Town Hall, Bexhill from 6.30 to 8.30pm, and will offer people the chance to speak to current serving councillors and senior officers. They will also be able to find out more about the varied services the council provides, the challenges it faces in the years ahead and the support councillors receive. People interested in attending the event are asked to register their interest by emailing [email protected] by Wednesday 14 November

Care for the Carers: run a monthly Carers Information and Advice Group which meets the 4th Thursday of the month, 10am – 12pm at St Mary’s Centre, Lion Street, Rye TN31 7LB, and we’re looking forward to seeing some new faces there from the Brede and local Rye areas.
