Icklesham

GREETINGS: Just a quickie this week as very little seems to be happening. Hope you are not being inconvenienced too much by the road closures. The work moves closer to Icklesham this week, so we may find ourselves cut off. Keep smiling.

CHURCH NEWS: Remember that there will not be a service in the morning on Sunday this week. Instead, Icklesham is hosting the Benefice service of Choral Evensong at 6 pm. All members of the three congregations are warmly invited to come. The choirs have combined, and will sing the Magnificat, Nunc Dimittis, Ferial responses and the Psalm. We shall be celebrating the Feast of St. Michael and all Angels. I believe someone mentioned refreshments after the service, but don’t take that as gospel! The Archdeacon will be preaching. The rest of the service will be led by the Vicar, Jonathan Meyer. Harvest Supper is on Saturday 6TH October, and Janet Pegg – 01424 814 735 - has the tickets which cost £7. The supper this year will be fish and chips. During the coming week we remember St. Francis of Assisi.

WEATHER: This week it has been like the little girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead – when it was good, it was very, very good, and when it was bad it was horrid. I am still picking tomatoes and the roses are doing well. Planting of bulbs can be proceeding from now on. With October arriving during the week, we shall soon have to go through the pantomime of changing the hour on the clocks. At the beginning of October, sunrise is at 07.05; in September it was 06.10 ; sunset in October is 18.24; in September it was 19.43. Winter draws on !! Did you enjoy the Harvest Moon?

CONTACT: That’s it for this week. Please keep information about events coming my way.

AND FINALLY: Have a good week. If you can, trot over to Winchelsea for their Harvest Flower Festival on 5th, 6th, and 7th October. The theme is The Elements, taking inspiration from the beautiful windows. There will also be a raffle, book and plant stalls, as well as local arts and crafts. Coffee, light lunches and teas will be available each day.
