Busy Busy!: What a wonderful week we have just had! The Village Hall was packed for the Fashion Show in aid of Family Support Work, and we raised over £700 for this wonderful local charity, as well as bagging some bargains for ourselves. Huge thanks to Sarah, Nicki, Margaret and Sally for getting out of their comfort zone and modelling for us.

On Sunday we had the second Rother Valley 10k and the winning time was spectacularly smashed by Ross Skelton who steamed home in just 32 minutes 46 seconds. Thanks to everyone who made it such a success – not least the main sponsors, Gardenscape, Bourne Sport and Rush, Witt & Wilson, the competitors and those of you who turned out to marshal or cheer on the runners.

Dance Club: On Friday evenings, the Sequence Dance Club meets in the Village Hall at 7pm. Call Tony (253287) to find out more – the evening is 7-10pm with a break for tea and chat.

Badminton: The new season starts soon, so it’s a good time to think about joining our badminton clubs in the Pretious Sports Hall, on Fridays at 7.30pm or Mondays at 5.45pm. Both are suitable for beginners or returners to the sport, and are happy for you to just turn up.

Craft Fayre: The Bonfire Society Craft Fayre on Saturday 22nd September promises a packed hall of goodies from a range of craftspeople. Free entry, free parking, lots to see, so do come along, if only for the bacon butties!

Rabbit & Cavy Club: The Village Hall will be full of our furry friends on Sunday when the Rabbit and Cavy Club holds its Show 10.30-4pm.

Great Dixter: Great Dixter will be open for parishioners on Sunday 23rd September 2-5pm. Please bring some form of identification and take time to enjoy this rightly famous spot. Our grateful thanks to all at Great Dixter for continuing this tradition.

Line Dancing: Join the Line Dancing Class on Tuesday mornings in the Village Hall – a friendly way to exercise! 10 – 11.30am

Aerobics: It was great to have Emma Cutler at the 10k offering a jaunty warm-up session as well as post run massage. You don’t have to run 10k to benefit from Emma’s guidance – she runs an aerobics class on Wednesdays in the Village Hall at 6.30pm.

Thursday Seniors: Every Thursday, Seniors’ Club meets in Northiam Village Hall from 10.30am until 2.30pm. All pensioners are welcome, and free door to door transport can be arranged for anyone in Northiam, Beckley, Peasmarsh and Broad Oak if you are on the Rye Community Bus route. The cost is £8 and includes welcome tea/coffee, a freshly cooked two course meal, extend chair exercises and a talk/entertainment. Citizens Advice Bureau: The CAB will be available in the Jenkins Room of the Village Hall on Thursday 10-12. They have a wealth of information and contacts, so it’s always worth taking a problem to them.

Bank: The mobile Natwest Bank calls on Thursdays, 2.45-3.30pm in the Village Hall car park.

Macmillan: Next Friday morning, you are invited to support the Macmillan Biggest Coffee Morning. Northiam will be taking part, holding their coffee morning in the Church Centre (opposite Douglas Moloney’s) from 10-1 on Friday 28th September. I think this is a charity very close to all of our hearts, so do put it in your diary to pop along.

Rockitmen: Rockitmen return to the Village Hall on Saturday 29th September. Tickets are £10, available from Margaret 253112

Harvest: Over the weekend of October 5-7th, St Mary’s Church will be celebrating Harvest. You are invited to call into the church for morning coffee or afternoon tea and enjoy the work of the team of flower arrangers who decorate the church every week of the year.

Money raised and gifts given will be in aid of Family Support Work, which supports local needy families. There will be a Harvest Praise Service on Sunday 7th October at 10.30am at which you would be very welcome. If you would like to donate a gift in recognition of Harvest, non-perishable items such as tins of soup, stew, beans etc, toothpaste, pasta, pasta sauce would be most suitable for the FSW worker to have ready to share with people who need them – there will be a box inside the church door to take your gift. Thank you.
