SEDLESCOMBE AND DISTRICT FLOWER CLUB: A lovely start to the run up to Christmas is the flower club Christmas demonstration on Wednesday November 14 at Sedlescombe Village hall. This year Christine Nash will be visiting to give her interpretation of 'A Blooming Marvellous Christmas'. You are invited to come along and enjoy the evening doors open at 7pm, if you have never tried anything like this before, you might be surprised how enjoyable it all is. There will be the usual sales table but at this time of year, on offer will be everything you need for your festive flower arrangements as well as some special accessories. There will also be the opportunity to win one of the beautiful arrangements at the end of the evening alongside a very exciting general raffle. THANK YOU: Margaret writes “Thank you to everyone who donated jumble or helped in any way at last Saturday’s sale. Many hands made lighter work. It was a super day in many ways. There were over 170 people through the door, the queue was endless, all helping to raise £520 for Church funds. It was hard work but the result was worth it “

HEATING: There is good news to report from St John the Baptist church, the heating has now been restored after their recent bad luck. A definate reason to celebrate and give thanks.

COFFEE MORNING AND MINI MARKET: The next date for this is on Thursday November 1 in Sedlescombe village hall starting at 10am until 11.30am. Margaret and helpers look forward to welcoming old friends and making new ones especially if you are new to the village. There will be all the usual stalls , bric a brac, books and puzzles, always good with the dark evenings approaching, home baking and preserves, raffle and of course, coffee tea cheese scones or biscuits for your refreshment along with good company. All proceeds benefit our Parish Church. For more details please call 870808.

CHRISTMAS OPERA EVENING: Mark your diaries for a special Christmas event taking place on Sunday December 9. Thomasin Trezise makes a welcome return to perform a Christmas concert including some light Neapolitan songs and carols with some audience participation to accordion accompaniment in our beautiful historic Parish church. Doors open at 6pm. SEDLESCOMBE AND WESTFIELD INVOLVEMENT GROUP

The Patient Involvement group meet once a month to assisting our surgeries in Sedlescombe and Westfield with up to date information to patient from the surgeries. The group are a route of communication of information with the doctors prior to implementation of forthcoming up to date medical legislation and information. The latest information with regard to the flu jabs is that the surgeries are able to vaccinate up until March 2019. This is provided the vaccines are available. An appointment will be necessary, so ask at the surgeries for the up to date flu vaccination dates and times. There are two types of vaccines this year. One for the over 65 age group and one for those patients under 65 years of age. If you are interested in joining the Patients Involvement Group, P.I.G. and would like more information please ask for a leaflet at the surgeries reception.

ARMISTICE CONCERT: In this 100th year of remembering the end of WW1, the 120 voices of Cranbrook Choral Society and Paddock Wood Choral Society with Cranbrook Sinfonia will be performing an Armistice Concert to include Karl Jenkins THE ARMED MAN: A Mass for Peace,Five Negro spirituals from A Child of Our Time - Sir Michael Tippett,Serenade for Strings - Sir Edward Elgar. This will take place at St. Dunstan’s Church, Cranbrook on Saturday November 17 at 7.30 p.m. Tickets: £15 (£7.50 for students) available: Online: cranbrookchoral.org.uk or pwcs.weebly.com. WHERE HAVE ALL THE BASSES GONE??: There is a new choir in the area, The Whatlington Singers, a newly formed mixed choir. They enjoy singing different styles of music from classical to popular. They are looking to increase our bass section so if you can read music, or have sung in a choir, they would love to hear from you. They meet on Monday evenings in Whatlington Church. SEDLESCOMBE SCHOOL PTA: The School PTA have taken on the mammoth task of trying to raise £50,000 to have the sports area resurfaced. You may have seen their photo here in the Battle Observer a week or so ago taking part in the Dragon race at Bewl Water. They also have a GoFundMe page for donations. One of their next fundraising events will be their annual Christmas Fayre on Saturday December 1 from 12 until 3pm. Make that a date in your diary to support your local school. More details nearer the time.
