POETRY & PROSE EVENING: In the Hall last Saturday evening, this was another very successful and enjoyable event in the annual joint Brede and Udimore winter series. Ranging in date of publication from the early 17th century (John Donne) to the present day (Stephen Wrigley), the passages chosen provided plenty of stimulus and entertainment, concluding with another stirring recitation by Robert Wheeler. Though Robert’s fellow impresario, Gary Marriott, was among several regulars unable to be there, Duncan Reid took on the delicate and critical task of melding the varied contributions into a well-balanced programme. During the midway break in proceedings another tasty two-course supper was served, one course being provided by the talented chefs of each of our parishes. Our thanks must go to them in particular, and to Gary, Robert and Duncan, but also to readers and audience alike for putting this annual show on the road again. The funds of each parish should benefit by nearly £200.

CHURCH SERVICE: This Sunday morning, the first in Lent, there will be a Sung Family Eucharist in St Mary’s, starting at 9.30am and followed by refreshments in the church.

MESSY CHURCH will be in the Hall on Tuesday afternoon, March 2, starting at 4pm.

SPRING FASHION SHOW: At 7pm on March 23 the Friends of St Mary’s Church have arranged a fabulous Fashion Show in the Hall. Taking part will be the French fashion house “Miss Captain”, and the “Kontrast” boutique and “Herald & Hart” Hats (both of Rye). £5 tickets include nibbles and may be obtained from Nadia by ringing 01424 882948.
