Services at the Parish Church: this Sunday are both Holy Communion, at 8am and 10am.
Westfield Women’s Institute: meets in the Parish Hall today at 2.15 pm, when Anthony Smith will be talking about ‘Life and Fossils on the Seashore’. The competition is a fossil. New members are always welcome. Contact the W.I. President Mrs Val Walkinshaw on 07927 403200 for more information
Friends of Fia: have organised a sponsored pyjama walk on Sunday, October 16, to support Fia and her family. Fia has Alexander disease, which is neurodegenerative, and there is no cure at present. Please meet at 11am at the Pier in your best pyjamas, and walk with the group to Grosvenor Gardens where everyone will be having a picnic. For more information please see www.gofundme.com/fofia, and see Friends of Fia on Facebook. It goes without saying that if you are unable to join the walk your donations will be appreciated and will be put to good use. Fia’s family are determined to ensure that other families in Westfield benefit from fund-raising too, and it is heartening to see how village groups have responded.
The Friendship Club: meets on Monday, October 17 at The New Inn from 2-3.30 pm. Members play bingo and whist, with a cup of tea and biscuits during the afternoon. New members are always welcome; contact Jean Hobson on 01424 753095 if you would like more information.
WCA Council Meeting: Westfield Community Association has a council meeting on Monday at 7.30pm in the Community Dining Room.
Westfield Horticultural Society: holds its AGM on Wednesday, October 19 at 7pm. Come and have a say in how the society is run. If you are interested in joining the committee have a chat with any committee member to find out more. Homemade refreshments will be served.
Do not forget that the Horticultural Society holds the Pumpkin Competition at The New Inn at midday next Saturday, 22 October. Bring your home-grown pumpkins along for a weigh-in. There will be tasty pumpkin treats to sample, prizes and plenty of silly pumpkin fun!
Westfield Parish Lunch Club: Do you have a spare couple of hours once a month? The lunch club needs volunteers to do the washing up during and after the lunch. This is just once a month on the 4th Friday. Please get in touch with the Co-ordinator Doreen on 01424 751417 if you can help.
The Westfield Village website: www.westfieldvillage.co.uk has all sorts of information about village organisations, events, news and views, Westfield Community Association and the Parish Council. Please use the website Contact page to leave contributions for this column.
