Westfield News: The news that Westfield News would be closing from March 5 came too late for last week’s Village Voice. Newspaper deliveries are being taken over by another firm, with Richard, Dan and most of the team carrying out the actual deliveries, but the shop will be sadly missed. Richard and Dan have always been a very helpful part of our community, and we thank them for their help in the past and wish them well for the future.
Westfield Spring Tidy: A huge thank you to the thirty-plus volunteers, including quite a few children, who came out on last Saturday to help with the Village Spring Tidy. They managed to fill about twenty bags with all sorts of rubbish from a really old transformers toy to a tent! They also cleared a lot of branches that had come down in the Recreation Ground and Churchyard during the recent storms.
Services at Westfield Parish Church: on Sunday are Holy Communion at 8am and Morning Praise at 10am. The weekly Lent meetings continue in the church each Wednesday at 7.30pm, so come to any meeting for praise, prayer and Bible study. The new boiler is working, so services are back in a nice warm church after two months of meeting in the hall.
Westfield Scout Group: holds a Jumble Sale tomorrow at 2.30pm in the Community Hall, so pop in to pick up a bargain. Donations of jumble gratefully received at the hall from 1pm, but no large or electrical items, please. Admission is 50p (children free) and refreshments will be available.
Westfield Scout Group: is also organising another of its popular Murder Mystery Evenings next Saturday, March 18 at 7pm for 7.30pm. The Playden Murder Mystery Players will be making a welcome return visit to entertain and challenge teams of about 6 people. Tickets (£8) are available from Scouts, Archers or ring 01424 753684 or 754080, and include ploughman’s supper. Please bring your own drinks and glasses.
Westfield Horticultural Society: invites you to a talk on Wednesday, March 15 at 7pm in the Community Hall, when Alison Marsden of ‘Gardening by Design’ will explaining all about ‘Front Garden - Making the Most of Your House’. Please ring 01424 552585 to book. WHS members are free, and non-members pay just £2, and there will be home-made refreshments.
The Westfield Village website: www.westfieldvillage.co.uk has all sorts of information about village organisations, events, news and views, Westfield Community Association and the Parish Council. Please use the website Contact page to email contributions for this column.
