‘Westfield Remembers’ World War I Exhibition: This wonderful commemorative exhibition drew many visitors to the Church Hall last week-end. With many boards describing the stories of Westfield residents who served in WW1, it was an amazing and thought-provoking display. Hours of painstaking work and research has been undertaken by the creators of the exhibition – congratulations to all concerned. There is still a chance to see the exhibition in the church today and tomorrow from 10.30am to 4pm. The displays of poppies along the main road have been completed – what a stunning tribute from all sections of the village community. The phrase ‘Lest we forget’ has truly been taken to the hearts of residents.

Westfield Women’s Institute: The WI meets in the Parish Hall today at 2.15 pm. New members are always welcome. Contact the W.I. President Mrs Val Walkinshaw on 07927 403200 for more information. Today is the Annual Meeting, and the competition is a home-made poppy.

Westfield Church: The November Messy Church takes place in the Church Hall tomorrow from 3-5pm. This fun packed Church for all the family includes art and crafts, media, music, drama, and food! All families are welcome.

Friends of Westfield Church: The Friends of Westfield Church hold their AGM tomorrow at 2pm in the church. The normal business will be followed by a talk ‘Meandering Around WW1. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Remembrance Sunday: The Service of Remembrance is at 10.30am on Sunday, followed by the laying of wreaths and poppies at the War Memorial. Westfield Cubs, Beavers, Guides and Brownies will be parading.

Westfield Horticultural Society: The WHS has arranged a talk about the Women’s Land Army next Tuesday 13 November. Ian Everest will be relating stories based in part on his mother’s reminiscences. Anyone in the WLA will be especially welcome – maybe you could share your own stories or photo. The talk starts at 7pm at the Bowls Club, and wine, nibbles and refreshments will be available.

Westfield Bowls Club: The Bowls Club invite you to their 60’s and 70’s Dance from 7.30 – 11pm next Saturday 17 November in the Church Hall. Lee Ritchie will be providing the entertainment. Tickets are £10 including supper, but please bring your own drink. Ring 0794 0575084 to book.

Carols Round the Tree: I see that residents are starting to put up Christmas lights in preparation for the switch on on 1 December. This reminds me that it will soon be time for Carold Round the Tree on 14 December, and that we need wind instrument musicians to join in playing a dozen well-known carols. We can’t provide music without you! Please ring 01424 753684 if you are able to help.
