Open Gardens: This Saturday September 22nd two gardens will be open in aid of the National Gardens Scheme charity and these are the last openings in the season. The gardens are King’s Leap in Castle Street which is described as a large cottage-style garden with woodland border, rockery and plants for year-round colour. Also, Rye View on The Strand which has a mix of formal and informal plantings plus bamboos, grasses and unusual shrubs. All are invited to come and see these attractive gardens and admission is £4 for adults and free for children and dogs. The opening time is from 1 till 5pm and refreshments are available in the local area.

Christmas Windows 2018: If you are interested in taking part in this year’s Christmas Window displays or would like to help in any way the team will be meeting at the New Inn on Saturday September 22nd at 10.30am. The Christmas Windows is a popular visitor attraction and involves windows around the town being dressed in artistic, imaginative scenes on the theme of Christmas.

Coffee Morning: The Ferry Road Health Centre, Rye are having a Macmillan Coffee Morning at the Surgery and all are invited to come along. This will be on Friday September 28th from 10am to midday.

Harvest Festival: After a season of ploughing the fields and scattering the good seed on the ground the Harvest is now due. With the variations in temperature it is also ‘plentiful but the labourers are few’ (Matthew 9:37; Luke 10:2) Next Saturday September 29th all are welcome to the Harvest Thanksgiving Service in the Wesley Chapel to sing praises together for all good gifts. So Come ye Thankful People Come! The celebration will begin at 11am and be led by Mr James Clephane-Cameron, preacher from Battle Methodist Church. After the service a special Harvest lunch will be provided by the caterers Oh Crumbs. There’s no need to book just come along and a donation would be gratefully received on the day.

Arts Concert: On Saturday October 13th the accomplished pianist Fiachra Garvey will be performing in St Thomas’ Church at 7.30pm. Tickets are £14 (£7 under 18s) from the Farm Kitchen or online at winchelsea-arts.org.uk. Fiachra Garvey is an award-winning pianist based in London and Ireland. He graduated in Music Performance and regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician across the UK and overseas. Recently he toured China giving masterclasses at the Beijing Conservatory of Music. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Dublin International Piano Competition. At the concert Fiachra will be playing works by Brahms, Field, Chopin and Rachmaninov.

Afternoon Worship: The last of the summer afternoon services at St Richard’s Church, on the fourth Sunday in the month, will be held at 4pm on September 23rd. Rector Jonathan Meyer will be leading this 35-minute service that includes Songs of Praise and time for prayer. Friends and visitors are most welcome and following the service tea and refreshments will be served.
