Villagers step up landfill site bid

Residents in Thakeham are continuing their fight against plans to make Laybrook Brickworks a landfill site for household and commercial rubbish.

Members of Thakeham Village Action, Thakeham Parish Council and other residents will be out in force when the pre-public inquiry meeting is held on Tuesday, September 13 in Chichester.

The 6.2 hectare site on Goose Lane, which is being used to extract clay for brick production, has been earmarked as a landfill space in the West Sussex Waste Plan since 2001 despite opposition from residents who have been fighting the plans for three years.

Residents want the site deleted from the Waste Plan as they believe it is unsuitable.
