WAR ON SPEEDING DRIVERS

A PRESSURE group is about to declare war on speeding drivers in rural areas.

The group, Rural Voices Rural Choices, has purchased a speed indicator detector which it is willing to hire out to villages in the Newhaven and Seaford area for a small fee.

Said RVRC chairman Cllr Shirley James: 'When we were formed nearly three years ago, the main concern each parish had was speeding traffic through their villages.

'We purchased the speed indicator detector earlier this year.

'Parishes in the coastal area will be able to hire the detector for a small donation, to use when they think appropriate.'

Training in its use will be given by Graham Beattie of East Sussex County Council's highways depart-ment.

The device warns drivers if they are exceeding the speed limit in a very immediate and visual way and hopefully encourages them to slow down.

Enquiries should be made to Tom Hawthorne on 01444 257727.
