Watch as fire breaks out at Chichester industrial unit

Video footage has emerged of a blaze at an industrial unit in Chichester this evening (Tuesday, February 25).

Multiple fire crews were called out just after 8.15pm to the 'well alight' building in Stane Street and the fire service has asked the public to avoid the area. Read more here"If you live in the area, please ensure your doors and windows are shut," a spokesman said.

"Please avoid the area."

The fire service said a drone was in operation at the site to give crews 'a better idea of the extent of the incident'.

Providing an update, the spokesman added: "The fire has now been extinguished.

"Three of our crews remain at the scene damping down and turning over. They are also carrying out a thermal scan of the building to identify any remaining hot spots."

Local resident Tara Goodacre praised the fire service for its response.

She said: "The fire was quick to establish but as soon as the emergency services were on scene, they were quick to extinguish it.

"At first we thought it was the amenity tip but it was a lot closer. We just hoped it wasn't going to spread too far to the other buildings."

Other residents on social media have described hearing a 'loud bang' following the outbreak of the fire.

Stane Street remains closed from the Chichester Bypass roundabout to the entrance to the Household Waste Recycling Site.
