Weatherreport seesfund-raisercancelled

AN inaccurate weather report led to Rye Harbour Lifeboat’s big charity cycle ride being cancelled on Sunday.

The volunteer crew at the station had worked hard to organise the sponsored cycle ride as part of the RNLI’S national fund raising appeal SOS Day.

A Met Office weather report on Saturday warned of gale force winds and heavy rain, which led to a decision to cancel for safety reasons.

In fact Sunday turned out to be a sunny and clear day.

Steve Tollett, from the lifeboat station, said: “The event will be rescheduled for later in the year, possibly around Easter.

“Everyone at Rye Harbour Station would like to express their most sincere regrets at having to cancel this event but the personal safety of our supporters is paramount.”
