Westfield Horticultural Society: reminds everyone that the Spring Show is tomorrow, Saturday, April 2. We are looking forward to seeing some delightful daffodils, sensational seedlings, creative crafts, tasty home produce and amazing floral art.

The Community Hall will be open from 8-10.30am for exhibits to be staged. General public can view from 2.30pm and prizes are given out at 4.30pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

The Friendship Club: resumes its fortnightly meetings after the Easter break. Join them in the Parish Hall on Monday, April 4 from 2-3.30 pm for bingo, whist or just a chat over tea and biscuits. Several outings are arranged during the year, and new members are always welcome, so contact Jean Hobson on 01424 753095 for more information.

Tickets are on sale: at the New Inn for the Charity Dance Night with Sam Calver from 7-11.45pm on Saturday, April 9 in Westfield Community Hall. Tickets are £10 (accompanied under 15s £5), and the proceeds are in aid of Ronald McDonald Brighton House. Contact Hannah 07800 770025 or email hannahstone@live.co.uk.

Westfield Scout: Group: is holding its annual Duck Race on Sunday, April 10 at the Forge Stream Bridge, Cottage Lane. Lucky duck numbers are £1 each from Archers Butchers or at the field on the day. If you cannot be there, please buy a duck and it will be raced for you. This year there is a special race for ‘character’ ducks! Bring your own duck; entries (£2) for this will be on the day only. As usual, burgers and hot dogs will be on sale from 12.15pm before the ducks are thrown at 1pm. There is very little parking available, so please walk from the village.

Why not try something: different? Silk painting all day workshops are starting at a craft studio in Moat Lane. No experience is needed, and painters will complete at least one painting. The cost is £40, including materials and lunch. Contact Gail on 01424 753654 for more information.

The Annual Parish Assembly: is on Tuesday, May 3, when the Westfield Volunteer Awards will be presented to residents. Do you know someone who helps in your club, organises events, takes people to hospital appointments, or who just is always there helping quietly behind the scenes? The Parish Council would like to thank these special people publicly, so please tell it about them! Nomination forms with all the details are available from shops, and need to be returned by April 15.

Looking further ahead, it has been decided: to change the date of the Westfield Village Fete to Saturday, June 11 on the Parish Field. The original date clashed with school holidays and an inset day; although this is a village fete, and not the school fete, the participation of the school was essential for all organisations to take part. The theme is ‘1066 – 950th Anniversary of the Battle of Hastings’ and it would be fun if people could dress to reflect this. Entry forms are now available from village shops for the Shakespeare themed Scarecrow Competition organised by the WCA. Entry is free, and welcome from everyone - all ages, individuals, groups and organisations, and businesses. The scarecrows need to be displayed from 28th May until 4th June, and prizes and certificates will be presented at the Village Fete.

The Westfield Village website: www.westfieldvillage.co.uk has a new look. The change is nearly complete, so take a look for all sorts of information about village organisations, events, Westfield Community Association and the Parish Council. This is your website, set up to serve the village community, so please remember to send in and your contributions, news and views to keep us all up to date.
