Poppy Display: No one passing through the village can fail to be moved by the display of poppies along the main road. Co-ordinated by Parish Clerk Kate, all sorts of village organisations, young and old, and individuals have come together to create a most beautiful poppy display. All sorts of crafts have been used to festoon trees, the telephone box, the verges, fences and walls with tributes in memory of those who have served this country in this special year commemorating the end of the First World War.

‘Westfield Remembers’ World War I Exhibition: This year commemorates 100 years since the end of World War I, and Westfield Parish Council in conjunction with Westfield History have organised an exhibition to remember the people from Westfield who served during the war. This is in the Church Hall tomorrow and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. There will also be a ‘Wall of Remembrance’ for relatives of current Westfield residents, a display of poems written by the Year 5 pupils, and poppies made by various groups in the village, and a ‘Tree of Thanks’. Entrance is FREE with refreshments available throughout the day. Donations for the local branch of the Royal British Legion very welcome. There will also be a children’s activity table to keep the children entertained whilst parents look at the displays. The display continues in the Parish Church all week, Monday 10.30am - 8.00pm and Tuesday to Saturday 10.30am - 4.00pm.

Film ‘The Battle of the Somme’: Tomorrow evening, Saturday 3rd November, there will be a screening of the acclaimed 1916 film of the Battle of the Somme, on loan from the Imperial War Museum. Westfield Parish Church: Services this Sunday 4 November are Holy Communion at 8am and 10am, with Youth Church at 10am. The annual Daffodil Service of Memories will be at 4pm that afternoon, when those recently bereaved have a special chance to remember and reflect. The Service of Remembrance is at 10.30am on Remembrance Sunday, followed by the laying of wreaths and poppies at the War Memorial. Westfield Cubs, Beavers, Guides and Brownies will be parading.

Westfield Friendship Club: The Friendship Club meets in the New Inn on Monday 5 November from 2.30 – 4pm. Bingo and whist are played in a friendly atmosphere, with tea and biscuits on offer. Ring Derek Edwards for more information (01424 753155). New members are always welcome.

Westfield Women’s Institute: The WI meets in the Parish Hall next Friday 9 November at 2.15 pm. New members are always welcome. Contact the W.I. President Mrs Val Walkinshaw on 07927 403200 for more information. Today is the Annual Meeting, and the competition is a home-made poppy.

Messy Church: It’s Messy Church time again next Saturday 10 November! This fun packed Church for all the family is in the Church Hall from 3-5pm. This includes art and crafts, media, music, drama, and food!

Friends of Westfield Church: The Friends of Westfield Church hold their AGM at 2pm in the church next Saturday 10 November. The normal business will be followed by a talk ‘Meandering Around WW1. Everyone is welcome to attend.
