Alex Goodman, The Royal Oak
August dates for your diary at The Royal Oak:
Saturday, August 10th (tomorrow) we are having a Wine Tasting evening with a distinctly Spanish feel, so if you are partial to a bit of Rioja or Cava, do come along and join us from 9pm. Tickets are just £5 each and we start at about 9pm, reservations essential on 01424 870492.
On the Bank Holiday Monday, 26th August we will be holding our annual Summer Party and Boules Competition in The Royal Oak garden. There will be a BBQ with Mike’s delicious homemade burgers for £5 each which includes entry in to the pairs boules competition. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played before, it’s a friendly sociable game and everyone is welcome to join in from midday.
Friday, 30th August is Irish Music Night, so if foot tapping to fabulous live music is your thing, do pop along to the pub from 8pm.
On Saturday, 31st August by popular request we will be holding another of our fancy dress cocktail evenings! The fancy dress theme is to “come as a film title”, which leaves it wide open - Dracula, Edward Scissorhands, The Woman in Black, Ghostbusters - how original can you be? It should be a good party night with interesting costumes and cocktails, so don’t miss out!
Church news this week from Jeffrey:
The second Sunday of the month will see Whatlington Parish church holding its monthly All Age Worship at 10.30am, in the Village Hall, as usual everyone is welcome at this service, which is aimed at being accessible to everyone.
Progress with the restoration of the church continues, with the electrical work now all but complete, the interior stonework cleaned and preparations underway for the final floor surface to be laid, engineered oak sheeting. Also in progress are the fitting out of the W.C. and the kitchen. The diocese has now approved the plans for the final phase of the works, this is still pending the final approval from the Chancellor for the Diocese, after which orders can be placed for the furniture and organ.
