PARISH CHURCH NEWS: This coming Sunday is of course both Remembrance Sunday and the Centenary of the signing of the Armistice in 1918. The Whatlington Service of Remembrance will be held at 10.30am on Sunday in the Parish church, where the village War Memorial is situated on the wall. The Village Hall car park will be open for church use and there will be refreshments served in the church following the service. At 11am the Last Post will be sounded in the church, followed after the two minute silence by Reveille. We hope that as many people as are able will join us for this poignant Remembrance.

Whatlington church bells will be rung before the service, from 12.30 to 1pm and again between 7.05pm and 7.30pm to coincide with the national bell ringing commemorations.

Looking slightly further ahead but remaining with Remembrance we have the Whatlington Singers concert in the church at 7.30pm on Saturday 17th. Tickets £7.00 each from [email protected].

Then on Thursday 22nd Nov. at 7.15pm we will be showing the film ‘Journey’s End’ in the church, free entry but a donation requested to the Combat Stress charity.

Car parking for both events will be at the village hall and we advise bringing a torch - it’s dark in the country, though the church does have outside lighting.

FILM CLUB: Don’t forget the sci-fi thriller A Quiet Place starring husband-and-wife team – both onscreen and off – John Krasinski and Emily Blunt will be shown at 8pm on Wednesday, 14 November at the Royal Oak in Whatlington.

The final film of the year – yet to be decided but likely to be more joyful than this month’s offering – will be shown on Wednesday 12 December, same time, same place.
