It has been a big week for the year 5 & 6 class at Mountfield & Whatlington village school as most pupils left the school and travelled away to a residential week at Ashburnham Place for five days this week .I think this will be the first time away from home and parents for such a long time for some of the children. The week has been full of outdoor activities and general team building exercises. I am sure they will be very tired by time they get back to their parents this evening.

It’s Irish Music Night tonight (Fri 29th) at The Royal Oak when local musicians join together for a jamming style session of Traditional Irish tunes from 8.30pm. Always a really popular evening around the bar, don’t forget to call and book a table on 01424 870492.

The New Orleans Rhythmakers will be performing Traditional Jazz at The Royal Oak from 8pm on Wednesday 4th July. This is the opportunity to see these professional musicians FOR FREE! Keep Traditional Jazz alive and support your local pub at the same time by coming along to this live music event. Please call 01424 870492 if you would like to book a table.

The Royal Oak readers will meet on Tuesday 24th July at 7.30pm to discuss “Helpless” by Barbara Gowdy - everyone welcome.

Message from Hilda Aplin. The Good Companions have finalised the details of their next two meetings. On Wednesday 11th July the group will visit Blackbrooks Nursery for afternoon tea and a leisurely stroll around the nursery, looking at all the different plants and perhaps buying a few for the garden. Michael Hodge has kindly offered to give the group a talk on diplomatic life entitled “Whiskey & Carrot” on Wednesday 22nd August at Whatlington Village Hall. Given the fact that this will be a very interesting, amusing talk we have decided to open this meeting up to all who would like to come. There will be a £1.00 entry fee to cover the hire of the village Hall and a raffle. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. Michael has allowed time for questions and answers. The meeting will start at 2pm. For further information on these events and if you would like to join The Good Companions for social events please contact Hilda on 01424 777358. We welcome new members. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all those people who have either spoken to me personally or emailed me to thank me for writing the village voice over a few years and for saying how much they enjoyed the column. Thank you also for the lovely bouquet of flowers received recently…much appreciated. I know that you will all continue to read Whatlington Village Voice, which will continue to have all the village news in it.
